Moonee Valley, VIC shapes Avondale Heights regeneration project with interactive suggestions

Moonee Valley is redeveloping the century-old Avondale Heights neighborhood with a balance of historical touches and modern amenities. Council leaders used an interactive map as the centerpiece of its initial engagement campaign. Residents were asked to pin specific locations that they love or believe need improvements. The map feedback period will be followed by community workshops that turn initial plans into final designs by 2022.

Moonee Valley, VIC turns Woodlands Park ponds into a key element in stormwater harvesting

Ponds with stagnant water were turned into sources of clean water with the addition of native wetland plants. Incoming stormwater from Melbourne Water filters through the plants on its way to two creeks and Port Phillip Bay. The council's parks team irrigates some of the processed water for lawn and garden maintenance. Moonee Valley processes 53 megaliters of stormwater through the park each year while protecting local wildlife from harmful waste.
