The two-year program provides personalized assistance for businesses with hard-to-fill vacancies. Project leaders are working with local employers on training programs for the quick onboarding of skilled workers. North Bay's human resources team offers one-on-one guidance to participants about their personnel needs. Additional components of this initiative include virtual job fairs and signposting for applicable local, provincial, and federal programs.

North Bay, ON adds flexibility to public transit with dynamic dispatching pilot

North Bay and Via introduced the myRide NBT Dynamic Dispatching app for the one-year pilot. Transit riders request pickup and drop-off locations and track their buses on the app. Via's software bundles multiple trip requests for each bus for more efficient use of transit vehicles than fixed routes. City officials selected evening hours six days a week and daytime hours on Sunday to test the system during low ridership periods.

City officials developed the program to help employers fill skill gaps and improve services to new residents. North Bay engaged government agencies, businesses, and nonprofits during the development of this five-year program. The website helps immigrants adjust to the community with a relocation guide and settlement services. By completing the Career Loan Program quiz, newcomers to North Bay qualify for up to $5,000 CAD for educational costs.

North Bay, ON assists businesses and residents during COVID-19 with new hotlines

The Business Services Hotline connected business owners to staff members who answered development, tax, and licensing questions. This hotline also directed owners to pandemic-related aid and grants. North Bay's Community Hotline answered resident questions about COVID-19, available city services, and other resources. Each hotline was available 8:30 am to 4:30 pm local time Monday through Friday.
