North Vancouver, BC "Alcohol in Public Spaces" pilot
The City of North Vancouver launched the "Alcohol in Public Spaces" pilot project to make life a little easier for residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. The four-month pilot involved passing a temporary bylaw allowing outdoor alcohol consumption from 11am to 9pm seven days a week at specific public locations. These "Alcohol Approved Zones" were created to give residents more space to socialize outdoors while maintaining social distancing.

Archived Project On June 1, 2020, Mayor and Council passed a bylaw allowing alcohol consumption at specific public locations in the City of North Vancouver. This is part of Council’s commitment to make life in the City during COVID-19 a little easier. Mayor Buchanan and members of Council are dedicated to creating a vibrant, connected and prosperous City, and their decision makes ours the first municipality in the province to allow the consumption of alcohol in designated outdoor spaces. This is a pilot project running from June 22, 2020 through October 15, 2020. It allows alcohol consumption from 11:00am - 9:00pm, seven days a week at the following locations: Waterfront Park (north and south of the train tracks, excluding the playground) Victoria Park (west) Civic Plaza Mahon Park (behind Fen Burdett bleachers) Grand Boulevard (13th St. to 19th St.) / Ray Perrault Park (north west corner) Kings Mill Walk Park (Harbourside Pl. to Fell Ave.) Shipbuilders Square Cates Deck Lower Lonsdale Parklet Note the bylaw only applies to the locations above, designated by City of North Vancouver.

Project Succeeded
The initial pilot project ran from June 22nd to October 15th in 2020 and received overwhelming support from both residents and businesses. At the October 26th 2020 Council meeting, the Mayor and Council voted unanimously to make alcohol consumption in certain City locations permanent.
