An operating committee of city, university, and industry experts will design collaborative resources and events for emerging businesses. Orillia used a CAD 150,000 provincial grant to fund the Innovation Collective.

City staffers developed the online certificate program for local tour operators, accommodations, and restaurants. Frontline employees complete the certificate's six modules in two hours. The program teaches participants about Orillia's history, local attractions, and city services. The Tourism Ambassador Certificate adds a valuable credential to hospitality employee resumes. Local officials encourage business participation with prize drawings, online listings, and social media promotion.

Orillia, ON upgraded to LED streetlights and smart lighting controls to save energy and money.
The City of Orillia upgraded approximately 3,300 streetlights to LED lights with smart lighting controls. The smart lighting controls allow the City to remotely adjust lighting levels and monitor lighting outages. These remote functions will reduce energy costs, maintenance expenses, and light pollution. The City predicts that the upgrade will save 70% of the annual streetlight energy consumption, 40% of the street lighting costs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 70 metric tonnes.
