Phoenix, AZ launched the "Oops Shine One" program to educate residents on proper recycling
Phoenix, AZ "Oops Shine On" recycling program
Complete
The City of Phoenix launched the "Oops Shine On" pilot program in 2018 to educate residential waste customers on proper recycling. Employees of the Phoenix Public Works Department inspected curbside recycling bins of approximately 1,200 households and left report cards based on the contents. Customers received an "Oops" tag if the materials should be in the recycling bin or they received a "Shine On!" tag if they recycled correctly.
Project Succeeded
The pilot program launched in an area where 70% of the recycling was contaminated with approximately 1,200 participating households. Six weeks later, 70% of the participating households were regularly receiving "Shine On!" tags.
