Prineville, OR Aquifer Storage and Recovery system builds resiliency into the city's water supply
The city received $8.7 million from Apple for an ASR system near Prineville Airport. Four wells supply treated water to the aquifer for storage during periods of low demand. Prineville can tap into the aquifer to supplement water supplies during the summer. System capacity expanded from 200,000 gallons in 2018-2019 to 100 million gallons in 2020-2021 with a potential capacity of up to 800 million gallons. The ASR project addresses megadrought conditions without a new water treatment plant.
