Providence, RI considers methods for distributing $14.5 million of ARPA funds as reparation payments
The City of Providence's Municipal Reparations Commission is discussing methods for allocating $14.5 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to repay Black and Indigenous people impacted by systemic racism, slavery, and the mistreatment of Native Americans. The reparation payment methods being discussed include housing, landownership, college scholarships, health care, and even direct cash payments.
