Rapid City, SD plans to partner with non-profits for emergency calls involving homeless individuals

The Mayor of Rapid City is planning to reduce law enforcement's workload and decrease homelessness by having the Rapid City Police Department (RCPD) partner with non-profits. According to the mayor's proposal, the RCPD's Quality of Life Unit would train case managers and social workers to respond to emergency calls involving homelessness.

Rapid City, SD simplifies 211 text notifications with new system built by Everbridge

Local residents send city or county keywords via text message to 888777. Rapid City weather and event alerts are activated by texting RCImpact and RCSnow. The codes PCImpact and PCSnow register the user for Pennington County alerts. Notifications range from weather warnings to localized public safety alerts issued by city and county officials. The new system allows for greater customization through keyword opt-ins than the previous 211 Helpline system.
