Rialto, CA moves toward resilient and efficient water treatment with Wastewater Microgrid Project
The three-year project with Veolia North America adds solar panels and on-site battery storage to the plant. A reciprocating engine turns waste heat into electricity, replacing the traditional gas flare-off process. Excess energy not used for the plant's operations can be stored in case of power outages or sold to the local grid. These investments will result in $350,000 per year in energy savings and an annual emissions reduction of 600 metric tons.
