Sacramento County, CA mental health crisis team will respond to certain 911 instead of police
The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors is implementing a plan to have a mental health crisis team respond to certain 911 calls instead of police officers. The mental health crisis team will be funded partially by a reduction in police budgets but up to 80% of the cost will be covered by state mental health funds. The procedure will start by using the existing 911 dispatch system but will switch to a separate mental health call center when federal funding becomes available.
