The city of Santa Clarita partnered with traffic management specialist Western Systems and fuel cell manufacturers Altergy Systems to install a long-lasting hydrogen fuel cell back-up power system at a critical intersection used by 80,000 vehicles each day. The eco-friendly zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell system can keep the intersection running for days during power outages caused by brownouts, wildfires, high winds, etc.

The City of Santa Clarita is investing in ultraviolet light (UV-C) technology to minimize the spread of COVID-19. The city is using UV-C technology in HVAC systems inside city-owned buildings by retrofitting existing systems or whenever installing new systems. This air-disinfection technology improves ventilation, delivers cleaner air, and reduces colony forming units by 97.3%.

The City of Santa Clarita partnered with Sensys Networks to conduct a pilot of the GiveMeGreen! app for bicycle detection at signalized intersections. The pilot program was designed to improve road safety for cyclists without also inconveniencing motorists. The city integrated the app with "blank-out" signage provided by Iteris which only activate when cyclists are approaching to alert motorists. The city augmented the system with video cameras and bike lane detectors for non-smartphone users.
