Sarasota County, FL launched a historical geocaching program to encourage visits to local landmarks

Sarasota County is celebrating its centennial with the launch of "Sarasota County Quest" a historical geocaching program. Sarasota County Quest directs participants to locate postcards hidden at 21 local historical landmarks in a fun and educational scavenger hunt experience. Participants use a geocaching mobile app that provides GPS coordinates and clues about the postcard locations.

The Sarasota County Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Department has implemented numerous accessible features in local parks to improve outdoor activities for children with disabilities. These accessible amenities and programs include ADA-compliant swings, wheelchair-friendly trails, beach wheelchairs, beach access mats, etc. Additionally, the T-REC Coalition of Sarasota County provides free recreational programming consisting of monthly activities for children with disabilities.

Sarasota County, FL partnered with Via to offer residents an on-demand public transit service

Sarasota County has partnered with River North Transit, a subsidiary of Via Transportation, to offer residents an on-demand public transit service. The on-demand system will enable riders to request a vehicle via mobile app or by calling a phone number within designated zones to reach their final destination. As a promotion, the Sarasota County Transit Agency will offer this service for free during the first two weeks. The county estimates a 10% increase in ridership as a result of this option.
