Shreveport, LA maps digital inequality prior to deployment of new connectivity initiatives
The city's IT team produced an inexpensive Wi-Fi tracking device for use on garbage trucks. As trucks complete their routes, data on available networks by address are gathered for mapping. A Digital Divide website includes maps highlighting neighborhoods with low connectivity along with a narrative about the negative impacts of digital inequities. City officials are working with local partners to add Wi-Fi poles at recreation centers and plan for a future fiber-to-home network.
