Stratford, ON captures the current state of city sidewalks with an inspection robot
Stratford replaced manual inspections by city workers with a robot-led audit for 2021. Top Hat Robotics supplied an all-electric robot and operators for the two-week pilot. The robot uses depth cameras to capture sidewalk flaws to within one millimeter of accuracy. Footage was connected to a master map for targeted repairs and year-to-year sidewalk condition assessments. This pilot saved considerable personnel time spent in the past on months-long annual inspections.

The six-month pilot allows bus riders to request trips from two Stratford Transit shuttles. Commuters use the city's online reservation portal or rider app to book rides up to one year in advance. On-demand reservations include pickups and dropoffs at existing bus stops or intersections. App users track shuttle locations and estimated arrival times during requests. The pilot is designed to make transit trips fit rider needs while reducing operational costs.
