Tazewell County, VA launched the LEET program to cross-train sheriff's deputies as rural EMTs
Tazewell County launched the The Law Enforcement EMT (LEET) Program to improve access to emergency medical assistance by training sheriff's deputies to serve as EMTs in rural areas. The Tazewell County Sheriff's Office is working with the county 911 dispatch center so trained deputies can be deployed to calls when EMT units are busy or too far away. According to the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office, it is the only agency in Southwest Virginia with deputies cross trained as EMTs.

Tazewell County, VA 911 dispatcher monitors school security cameras during Rave Panic Button alerts
The Tazewell County Sheriff's Office and the 911 Center partnered with Tazewell County Public Schools to launch the Rave Panic Button system. Teachers can use the Rave Panic Button mobile app to send out emergency notifications which immediately alert 911 dispatchers and other school officials. The Tazewell County Board of Supervisors added an additional 911 dispatcher dedicated specifically to monitor for Rave emergencies with access to school security camera systems.

The Tazewell County Sheriff's Office partnered with the 911 Center and Tazewell County Public Schools to implement the Smart911 service. Residents can use the free Smart911 mobile app to provide key information to 911 dispatchers during an emergency. The Smart911 Safety Profile indicates the user's medical conditions, home address, household pets, and other various information to help improve emergency response efficiency. The Smart911 Safety Profile is automatically displayed to dispatchers.
