West Torrens, SA introduces food waste collection trial for West Beach residents

The one-year pilot provides free weekly collection of food waste by collection contractor Solo. Participants receive stickers for their green organics bins that signal participation in the trial. Food waste is composted and turned into fertilizer for local farms and gardens. Council officials are determining how best to divert the 40% of waste created in food production. A full switch to composting would save West Torrens $700,000 AUD per year in waste management costs.
