Twenty-two BigBelly bins were installed across the borough's five town centers. The bins use solar power to compact trash and communicate with the council when collection is required. Ards & North Down conducted a pilot with three compacting bins in 2019 that supported a broader rollout. Bin purchases were funded by a Recycling Community Investment Fund that turns savings from decreased landfill needs into sustainability programs.
