Arlington, TX RAPID Autonomous Vehicles Via RAPID Pilot

The Rideshare, Automation, and Payment Integration Demonstration (RAPID) pilot serves downtown and university residents for one year. Commuters use the existing Via app to request rides in self-driving vehicles from May Mobility. RAPID offers rides in at least one wheelchair-accessible vehicle as part of the pilot. Arlington also provides free rides for University of Texas at Arlington students to increase ridership.

A team led by Sharareh (Sherri) Kermanshachi of The University of Texas at Arlington has received $606,457 to help launch a new public transportation pilot program in downtown Arlington and on UTA's campus that features autonomous vehicles. During the technology deployment phase, this new service will offer free rides for UT Arlington students and other passengers.
