City & County of Swansea, GB advances plans for a council-owned solar farm at former landfill

City & County of Swansea, GB Former Landfill Solar Farm

Planning

The council sent its plan for a 17-acre solar farm at the former Tir John landfill to the Welsh government for approval. This facility would produce 3 megawatts per year and generate revenues when energy is sent to the national grid. Council officials estimate a 3% annual reduction in Swansea's carbon footprint through 2050. Solar panels on capped landfills could produce zero-emission energy for Swansea and beyond starting in 2022.
