Cornwall Council, GB develops renewable fuels and new farm revenues with biomethane pilot
Cornwall Council, GB Biomethane Pilot Renewable Fuels
Six local farms are outfitted with covered slurry lagoons that catch biogas. Project partner Bennamann converts the gas into biomethane sold to the council's fleet operator and local businesses. Council officials will convert 77 road works vehicles to biomethane when the lagoons are operational in 2022. The pilot covers its own operating costs over a 20-year period and provides farmers with additional revenue sources.
