Highland Council, GB Hydroelectric Turbine Sustainable
In Progress
The River Ness turbine will produce electricity to meet 50% of the Inverness Leisure Centre's daily usage starting in 2022. This 92-kilowatt facility cuts an estimated 1,420 tons of carbon emissions per year. Council officials are collaborating with the Science Skills Academy on interactive displays along with educational features for visitors. Highland Council anticipates the water-screw turbine to operate for at least 65 years.
Project Succeeded
Highland Council was shortlisted in the Best Climate Action or Decarbonisation Initiative category at the APSE Service Awards 2022.
