Melbourne, VIC Nokia Waste Disposal Behavior Pilot
City officials pursued a partnership with Nokia to study resident usage of five public compactors. Street camera footage and compactor data were fed into the Nokia Scene Analytics platform. This AI-powered system provided real-time alerts to the Waste Standards Team about illegal dumping and improper compactor use. Melbourne also learned the frequency of compactor use and types of items disposed of from Scene Analytics reports.
