New York, NY noisy driver automatic ticketing
The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) launched a pilot program to automatically detect and ticket noisy drivers. The pilot utilizes a camera-sound meter to record passing vehicles and if it captures any sound at least 50 feet away that is above 85 decibels it automatically records images of the vehicle's license plate. The DEP's noise enforcement staff review the videos, sends a notice to the registered owner, and conducts an inspection of the vehicle's engine.
