North Vancouver, BC "Alcohol in Public Spaces" pilot
The City of North Vancouver launched the "Alcohol in Public Spaces" pilot project to make life a little easier for residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. The four-month pilot involved passing a temporary bylaw allowing outdoor alcohol consumption from 11am to 9pm seven days a week at specific public locations. These "Alcohol Approved Zones" were created to give residents more space to socialize outdoors while maintaining social distancing.
Project Succeeded
The initial pilot project ran from June 22nd to October 15th in 2020 and received overwhelming support from both residents and businesses. At the October 26th 2020 Council meeting, the Mayor and Council voted unanimously to make alcohol consumption in certain City locations permanent.
