San Jose, CA starts Cash for Trash initiative to empower homeless residents and reduce blight

San Jose, CA Cash for Trash Homeless Residents Blight

In Progress

City officials kicked off Cash for Trash to clean waste left at 40 sites across San Jose. Homeless residents are provided bags by the BeautifySJ team for trash collection. Each participant can collect up to five bags per day at $4 per bag. These funds are loaded on reusable debit cards intended for food, toiletries, and other essentials. Cash for Trash blends short-term blight reduction goals with important connections to city services for the unhoused.
