Sydney, NSW collaborates with community groups and Seabin on a marine waste collection project

Sydney, NSW Seabin Marine Waste Collection Project

Complete

The Seabin V5 is a floating skimmer that can collect up to 20 kilograms of waste at a time. Council-supported volunteers gathered waste data from 16 units in Sydney Harbour from Jones Bay to Manly. Local officials coordinated with community groups, university researchers, and state agencies on responses driven by this data. Sydney was the first city in the world to participate in Seabin's self-funded Smart City Pilot, which seeks 100 participants by 2050.
