Tea Tree Gully, SA Virtual Fencing Pilot Accident Respond
In Progress
Local officials recorded 90 koala deaths due to traffic incidents from 2018 to 2021. The council is working with koala rescue organization 1300KOALAZ to install virtual fencing equipment over four kilometers of roadway. This technology activates light and sound alerts as vehicles approach to keep koalas away from traffic. Tea Tree Gully is the first local government in South Australia to adopt virtual fencing for wildlife management.
