Wandsworth Borough Council, GB tests curbside food waste collection and in-home composting

Wandsworth Borough Council, GB Food Waste Collection Compost

In Progress

The borough is recruiting 2,300 households in Southfields to participate in weekly collections of food waste. Participants will store kitchen scraps in dedicated bins provided by the council. Waste collected during the pilot will be turned into biogas and soil conditioner using anaerobic digestion. Wandsworth also plans a home composting trial with 100 participants. These programs evaluate the best ways for the council to dispose of 30,000 tons of food waste per year.
