Durham County Council, GB streamlines data analytics through a partnership with itelligent-i
The collaboration began with itelligent-i's business intelligence review of county departments in 2021. This review found departmental staff spent time on data collection and processing that could be better spent on analytics. Participant teams were outfitted with visualization and analytics systems for quicker access to data-driven insights. Durham County Council selected itelligent-i to develop a county-wide platform for service improvements based on previously siloed data.

Businesses interested in reduced carbon footprints complete a two-step registration for the Kanopi-powered platform. Cool Shropshire and Telford users calculate their current emissions, water usage, and other metrics. The platform tracks progress toward a company's sustainability goals through regular inputs. Telford & Wrekin Council offers free accounts to the first 500 businesses with a target of 1,000 participants in its first year.

The Satakunta Regional Council collaborated with the cities of Pori, Rauma, Kankaanpää, Kokemäki, Ulvila and Harjavalta to develop an online business and service directory. The free online service provides information on more than 18,000 companies operating in the region. Users can browse companies by location, industry, the number of employees, and turnover categories. The business information is updated by service providers and an annual business register.

These profiles expand beyond demographics by defining consumer values, decision-making processes, and preferences. A free three-workshop series presented these profiles to participating businesses. Facilitators also offered suggestions on how to craft marketing and services to connect with different groups.

The free online tool allows business owners or prospective entrepreneurs to search for relevant local data. Users can specifically review the local business climate, research customers, analyze the competition, and evaluate the workforce. The available data was supplied by the City, Statistics Canada, Canada Revenue Agency, Innovation, Science, Economic Development Canada, etc.

Kawartha Lakes, ON introduced a Community Profile dashboard to support small business growth
The city's Economic Development office worked with Localintel to design interactive tools for business intelligence. The business climate dashboard visualizes inputs like hourly wages, new dwelling construction, and development applications. A competitive analysis tool allows an entrepreneur to find competitor sizes and regional concentrations in their industry. Kawartha Lakes included features like a workforce analysis page and a commercial property search.

Coventry City Council, GB visualizes public data trends with Citywide Intelligence Hub
The hub stores current and past data on demographics, health, housing, and business prospects. A profiler tool helps users create maps, charts, and tables of different metrics across data categories. City personnel added the correlator feature to show how any two metrics correlate to each other. The comparator tool creates side-by-side maps for ward-level comparisons. Coventry produced the Citywide Intelligence Hub to accompany its Joint Strategic Needs Assessment.

Akron, OH is partnering with Colu to develop an app reward program for residents that shop locally
In an attempt to salvage local businesses during the pandemic, the City of Akron is partnering with an Israeli-based company called Colu. Colu's product rewards citizens with "city coins" for shopping at local businesses that can later be used as discounts at participating stores. In Akron, they are focusing on marketing for organizations owned by women and minorities. The hope is that this partnership will encourage citizens to shop locally and help improve revenues for their small businesses.

The Business and Investment Assistant categorizes tools into How-To, Indicator, Maps, and Connect tabs. The How-To section offers helpful articles and checklists on topics ranging from writing business plans to purchasing properties. Business owners find citywide metrics like workforce education, household composition, and unemployment rates in the Indicator tab. The color-coded map allows users to find neighborhood-level data on prospective clients, employees, and customers.
