Markham, ON implements online voter registration and ballot verification for municipal elections

Elections Markham sent Voter Information Letters with PINs for online registration in seven languages. This automated system used eSignature technology for verification of applicant eligibility. Once registered, voters had the option to fill out their ballots on a secure online platform. Online voters used the Scytl Verify app to confirm ballot receipt and accuracy within 30 minutes of voting. Scytl Verify searches for digital signatures on ballots that are removed once canvassing begins.

Los Angeles County, CA collaborates with AT&T on a ballot box tracking system pilot

The Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's Office affixed Smart Labels from AT&T on ballot boxes for a 2021 local election. Geofences were established around balloting locations and counting centers. Election staffers received alerts when tagged boxes were moved away from their assigned locations, thus protecting ballots from illegal tampering. This pilot was an extension of a Voting Solutions for All program with AT&T that increased election transparency and accessibility.

Hamilton, ON Ballot on Demand Pilot balances voting flexibility and election security

On-demand ballot printers will be stationed at McMaster University, Mohawk College, and Redeemer College for the October 2022 municipal election. Community members verify their voter eligibility and identity at each station's electronic poll book. The system prints ballots for each voter's ward regardless of the station location. Election officials are evaluating the system for potential citywide adoption during the 2026 municipal election.

Maricopa County has partnered with Hootsuite to deploy brand sentiment analysis tools to examine social media posts, bolster cybersecurity, and ensure election security. County officials are using social media monitoring to detect and prevent insider threats when hiring seasonal election workers. The county alerts law enforcement about potential threats, adjusts firewalls to high-threat areas, and adjusts communication strategies based on fomenting false narratives.

The new directive states that every campaigning group that receives parliamentary group funding must provide a comprehensive written account the party's financial situation. The directive also states that any income from donations, monetary services, advertisements, and sponsoring must have names and amounts published in the account statements.

The city of Nancy partnered with Keolis to organize a shuttle system to help elderly voters reach polling stations that are particularly far from their homes. The shuttle system is intended for people over the age of 70 who live at home and have difficulty walking over long distances. The shuttle system is not designed to replace specialized transport services for residents with reduced mobility due to a walker or wheelchair.

Danville, IL is implementing optional touch-screen voting equipment for the 2022 primary election

The city of Danville is implementing optional touch-screen voting equipment for the 2022 primary election. The Danville Election Commission purchased 15 ExpressVote Universal Voting System machines for approximately $70,000. The voting machines are ADA compliant with headphones available for voters to listen to the names and information on the ballot. There will be one ExpressVote touch-screen machine per polling place with 12 polling places in the city.

Pima County, AZ is replacing precinct-based polling places with new vote centers and e-poll books

Pima County is replacing precinct-based polling places with new vote centers and e-poll books. By replacing the polling centers where in-person voters had to cast ballots within their precincts voters will be able to cast a ballot at any location. The Pima County Elections Department is partnering with TENEX to replace the paper process for checking-in voters with election management software that will use an iPad to print off a ballot specific to each voter's verified precinct.

The City of Anchorage is implementing BallotTrax automatic tracking alerts for voters using its vote-by-mail system. Voters can register at anchoragevotes.com to receive automatic updates via email, text or phone call during each stage of ballot processing. Voters are also notified if there are any issues with their ballot envelope and provided contact information for the city's election center.

Orange County, CA launched a pilot of new ballot-tracking BoxLock barcode scanning technology

The Orange County Registrar of Voters launched a pilot of new ballot-tracking BoxLock technology at select ballot drop boxes for the June 2022 Primary Election. The ballot drop boxes will be equipped with a secure barcode scanner allowing voters to scan their mail ballot envelope as they drop it off. Voters will immediately receive an SMS text message confirming that their ballot was dropped off at the specified ballot drop box.

Arapahoe County is the first in the Denver metro area to change its elections website from a .com domain to a .gov domain to combat election misinformation. The .gov domain promotes trust in the election process as it cannot be used unless the entity is verified as a property of the official government office. Prospective voters can access www.arapahoevotes.gov to learn how to register, where to cast ballots, access sample ballots, and review election results.
