The Municipality of Alkmaar is conducting the "Living Together" pilot which involves placing smart sensors in the homes of seniors. The sensors are installed for free including smoke detectors, a panic button, a motion detector, and door sensors. These sensors warn family members, friends, and neighbors if there is an emergency. The pilot was created to support seniors living independently.

Alkmaar, NH checklist helps residents make their homes safer to prevent fires and falling accidents
The Municipality of Alkmaar partnered with the Noord-Holland Noord Safety Region, the Red Cross, and GGD Hollands Noorden to launch a campaign that helps residents make their homes safer. The campaign was primarily designed to prevent fires and falling accidents. Participating residents complete a short interactive online quiz and checklist which help them make small adjustments throughout their home to improve safety. The fire brigade also conducts follow-ups with residents upon request.

Alkmaar, NH collaborates with local organizations on the "Every Child a Bicycle" initiative
The Municipality of Alkmaar is collaborating with the Share2Day Foundation and RataPlan on the local "Every Child a Bicycle" initiative. The current phase of the project will donate 60 bicycles to children from families that cannot afford to purchase one themselves. The municipality collects the donated bicycles, Rata Plan refurbishes the bicycles, and the Share2Day Foundation covers the costs.
