Antwerpen, VAN trials Sparrow sensor technology for real-time environmental monitoring
Twenty city trucks and delivery vehicles were outfitted with Sparrow's mobile sensor nodes for the pilot. Each roof-mounted node measures nitrogen dioxide, particulate matter, and other air pollutants during the vehicle's daily routes. Sparrow nodes also collect information on road conditions like surface temperatures and noise levels. Ongoing data collection supports informed decisions by residents about outdoor activities, commutes, and housing.

Antwerpen, VAN offers free career guidance for the temporarily unemployed and vulnerable job seekers
The city of Antwerpen is offering free career guidance to any residents who have been temporarily unemployed for at least one day in the last 12 months. The city is allocating €900,000 to expand training opportunities for the temporarily unemployed and vulnerable job seekers. Eligible participants will receive 4 hours of career guidance from a recognized career center and workers in the hospitality, tourism, or events sectors receive an additional 3 hours.

The city of Antwerpen is planning to launch a mobile app by the end of 2022 that will allow users to access all city services and communicate directly with the city. The mobile app is still in development but some its planned launch features include: international passport expiration reminders and applications, illegal dumping reporting, custom leisure offers, and event catering.

Antwerpen, VAN partnered with various organizations to launch LGBTQIA+ volunteer buddy initiative
The city of Antwerpen partnered with the non-profit Het Roze Huis, the intercultural LGBTQIA+ association Shouf Shouf, and the civic integration center Atlas to launch the "Finding and Connecting" volunteer buddy initiative. The initiative offers LGBTQIA+ residents, with a migration background, support by pairing them with a volunteer buddy for six months or more. Each buddy volunteer receives specialized training and is supervised by a coordinator to promote Antwerpen as an inclusive city.
