Just two years after starting a composting pilot program in the City of Beverly, the decision has been made to open it up to the entire community. Waste Reduction Committee co-chairman Jim Bauer said the exceptionally high participation rate in the pilot program was a huge factor in making the choice to expand the option to more residents. Project Succeeded
The two year pilot program saw resident participation rates of over 80%. Residents typically did not contaminate the composting pickup as well. The city saved $20 for every household that participated in the program. Residents put out an average of 12 pounds of compost a week.
