Newcastle upon Tyne City Council, GB launches unified public Wi-Fi network
Newcastle City Council recently launched a unified public Wi-Fi network called ConneX, providing seamless connectivity across the city center and council buildings to replace fragmented hotspots. The initiative, delivered in partnership with Purple—which supplied £120,000 in free hardware and licenses—and funded by the UK Government’s Levelling Up program, enables secure roaming and single-login access without repeated passwords.
Project Succeeded
Residents, visitors, students, and 1,000 local SMEs benefit from free connectivity, digital insights on footfall and usage, and enhanced economic competitiveness, while the council gains data for better planning and tourism strategies.
