Charles Sturt, SA Public Litter Bins Waste Management
City officials reviewed financial analyses, neighboring council policies, and community feedback about its public litter bins. A City Clean team was created to empty up to 300 bins per day compared to 55 in the past. The team's compactor truck was named the Bin Chicken after a public naming contest. OptiRoute software was adopted for streamlined routes by council personnel and vehicles. The Public Litter Bins Project also removed or reallocated 140 bins based on usage data.
Project Succeeded
The Public Litter Bins Project reduced department operating costs by 8.3%. Charles Sturt was a finalist for the Excellence in Customer Service or Experience Award at the 2022 LG Professionals SA Annual Leadership Excellence Awards.
