Chicago, IL deploys 5G flood sensors to track flooding impacts on infrastructure

Planning

Chicago has launched a pilot project to deploy about 50 flood sensors across the city to provide real-time data for analysts and emergency responders. The initiative uses easily installable sensors that transmit data via 5G without trenching or hardwiring. The project, running through 2026, builds on a similar effort in New Orleans and aims to create a comprehensive citywide picture of flooding impacts on infrastructure, schools, and critical facilities.
