City officials approved a contract with Downer Group to apply recycled asphalt on seven roads. Each ton of the mix includes 150 kilograms of repurposed asphalt, 17 printer cartridges, and 590 plastic items. The newly surfaced roads will be monitored for longevity and maintenance needs before additional projects are approved. Darwin estimated a carbon emissions savings of 12 tons compared to standard asphalt application.
