Forty-two Bigbelly bins replaced 115 standard public bins across the district's five local councils. Each bin uses a solar-powered compactor to increase storage capacity eight times over a traditional bin. Waste collectors receive automated messages from Bigbelly bins when service is required. The switch to self-compacting bins eliminated the need for multiple daily collections that strained council resources.
