East Gippsland received a state grant to leverage existing business knowledge for sustainable economic growth. Local entrepreneurs and industry experts participate in the program as Resource Team members. Each volunteer mentor learns how to communicate with diverse communities during training sessions with Ignite Small Business Start-ups. Resource Team members are paired with students and early-career entrepreneurs for personalized support toward their professional goals.

East Gippsland, VIC speeds progress toward renewable electricity goal with recreation centre solar

Project contractor A1 Solar & Electrical installed a 100-kilowatt system on the Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreation Centre. The installation's capacity is more than double the capacity of the next largest municipal solar installation. An existing gas-powered cogeneration system allows the facility to produce its own electricity with minimal grid interaction. East Gippsland pursued this project to fulfill its goal of 100% renewable electricity by 2023.

East Gippsland, VIC navigates bushfire victims through reconstruction with Rebuild Support Service

Residents are eligible for the free service if they lost homes and accessory buildings during recent bushfires. Consultations with council staff explain the permitting process and gather necessary documents for participants. The Rebuild Support Service also assists with filling out permit applications for council review. East Gippsland focuses the service on like-for-like projects that restore properties to pre-bushfire conditions.
