Project contractor A1 Solar & Electrical installed a 100-kilowatt system on the Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreation Centre. The installation's capacity is more than double the capacity of the next largest municipal solar installation. An existing gas-powered cogeneration system allows the facility to produce its own electricity with minimal grid interaction. East Gippsland pursued this project to fulfill its goal of 100% renewable electricity by 2023.
