Eastleigh Borough Council, GB evaluates waste management services with food waste collection pilot

The borough selected 5,000 homes and flats to participate in the three-month pilot. A weekly pickup using hybrid and plug-in electric vehicles is dedicated to food waste collection. Eastleigh added a biweekly collection of glass along with other recyclables as part of the pilot. Low-emission vehicle use for food waste pickups helps the borough reduce its operational emissions. A successful pilot would also help 7,000 flat residents divert food waste from landfills.
