Edmonton, AB tested an adaptive street light system at busy downtown intersections
Edmonton, AB Downtown Adaptive Street Light System Pilot
The three-month pilot evaluated data from thermal sensors and intersection cameras on a seven-block stretch of 101 Street. This system changed lights and walk signs depending on current traffic rather than pre-set patterns. Transportation officials used 101 Street because of its proximity to high-traffic areas like Rogers Place and Edmonton City Centre. Edmonton became the first Canadian city to test adaptive street lights with the pilot.
