The jointly developed technology consists of a trio of tools for the identification of hate symbols throughout Edmonton. The Lantern mobile app for city employees supports photo uploads and reports of potential symbols in the field. The Gallery web application compares uploaded photos to the ADL's Hate on Display database for confirmation. City officials identify hotspots and schedule symbol removal using the Watch dashboard.

Indigenous interpreters share personal and family experiences at this immersive experience in Fort Edmonton Park. Artwork, documents, and oral history recordings explore local lives before and after contact with Europeans. An artist residency for indigenous performers resulted in original music for the experience. Project leaders consulted with 50 elders, historians, and community members when developing this first-in-Canada experience.

Edmonton, AB addresses unsafe vacant properties with Community Property Safety Team pilot
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) found that the most common setting for fire deaths in 2021 was unsecured vacant lots. The CPST pilot running through 2023 orders vacant property owners to secure entrances to their properties with wood. An escalating series of orders for non-compliance range from fencing to demolition with expenses billed to the offending owners. EFRS and the Community Standards and Neighbourhoods team also encourage owners to repurpose or sell properties when feasible.

Edmonton, AB Overdose Prevention & Response Team pilot takes proactive approach to drug overdoses
City officials developed the four-month pilot with Boyle Street Community Services and the Downtown Business Association. OPRTs comprised of medical and outreach professionals patrol the Edmonton Pedway. Team members provide first aid to people struggling with drug use along with needle collection and referrals to health services. The OPRT pilot assists downtown businesses in recognizing drug overdoses and mobilizing appropriate resources.
