Fort St. John, BC takes advantage of wastewater facility location with Micro Hydro energy project

Fort St. John, BC Micro Hydro Generator Wastewater

The Micro Hydro building generates hydroelectricity using treated wastewater from the uphill Peace River plant. A 100-kilowatt turbine and generator produce 780-megawatt hours per year. Micro Hydro creates enough energy to power 70 homes per year. Fort St. John sells the electricity to utility BC Hydro and uses the $75,000 CAD per year in revenue to offset water pumping costs.
