The planned LoRaWAN network connects with IoT devices through 30 gateways across an area of 6,287 square kilometers. Initial applications of the Smart Shires Network include public bin monitoring, facilities management, and soil moisture analysis. The project is open to everyone in the three councils, thus allowing citizen science projects and other innovations.
