The video visitation system allows minors and out-of-area guests to visit with inmates after approval of their online profiles. Police officers are able to monitor video visits and the system's costs are offset by users rather than city residents.
Newcastle upon Tyne City Council designated three districts as "No Cold Calling Zones" to protect vulnerable residents with an awareness campaign. The zones were established to prevent unwanted callers, salesmen, fake workers, and distraction burglars from committing front-door crime. Every household within these zones received a "No Cold Calling Zone" window sticker and information packet.
Newcastle upon Tyne City Council partnered with NE1 and the National Innovation Centre for Data to develop the "How Busy is Toon" website. The website allows residents to check the number of pedestrians in the city centre to determine how difficult it would be to social distance. The real-time information is provided by measuring footfall levels and parking spaces in the city centre. The website uses a traffic light system to alert residents to low, average, or high levels of traffic.
