Hayward, CA moves homeless residents into permanent housing through Housing Navigation Center
The city works with Bay Area Community Services (BACS) to operate a community for up to 45 residents. A city-owned transit lot now houses three shelters, a kitchen, bathrooms, and an outdoor seating area. Two social workers identify unhoused residents most in need of assistance during encampment visits. Participants can stay for up to six months and receive comprehensive services as they search for long-term housing.

Hayward, CA partnered with Avellino Lab USA, Inc. to launch the Station 7 COVID-19 Testing Center
The City of Hayward partnered with Avellino Lab USA, Inc. to launch the Station 7 COVID-19 Testing Center. This drive-thru coronavirus testing center is free to the public and available to anyone regardless of documentation or residency. Participants are not required to have a doctor's referral but must undergo a screening process for other illnesses before receiving a test. The center is staffed by local firefighter-paramedics and EMTs with the capability of testings up to 350 people a day.
