Idaho Falls, ID approves microtransit pilot in response to the closure of a regional transit service

Greater Idaho Falls Transit (GIFT) replaces a regional authority that shuttered in 2019 due to financial issues. City officials approved a two-year pilot of on-demand transportation for the new service. A third-party operator to be selected will enable mobile app, online, and phone reservations within city limits. Idaho Falls and the Idaho Department of Transportation secured CARES Act funds for the pilot with a transit coordinator searching for long-term funding sources.

Idaho Falls, ID considers Residential Water Conservation Pilot Program for select households

The proposed pilot compares water usage in 100 households over two years. Smart meters monitor water consumption in the first year. Water Division staffers work with homeowners to identify fixtures for replacement before the second year. Each household is reimbursed $500 for recommended fixtures and $500 for professional installation. Reduced water consumption in the second year would be used to determine the most effective types of interventions.
