Kamloops is using a three-stage buildup to achieve citywide pickups of food and yard waste by 2023. The first stage uses online community engagement and collection route audits to better understand program demands. A one-year pilot in a few neighborhoods will determine changes and challenges for implementation across the city. Kamloops officials want a collection system to reach its per-person landfill contribution goal of 100 kilograms by 2050.
