Leduc, AB implements video detection and crosswalk control technology for improved pedestrian safety

Leduc, AB Video Detection Crosswalk Control Pedestrian

In Progress

The video detection system installed at one intersection observes the walking speeds of pedestrians. Traffic lights are adjusted to provide enough time for pedestrians to clear crosswalks. Six intersections along 50 Avenue use two-mode controllers that allow user control over walk signal length. Pedestrians select the one-second option for default walk times and the two-second option for extended signals.

Leduc’s new crosswalk technology among the first of its kind in Canada | City of Leduc

Two types of adaptive pedestrian crossing technologies have been installed at a number of crosswalks in Leduc. The technologies, which are among the first of their kind in Canada, adjust crossing times and light cycles based on pedestrian needs.
